Prick by Laurie Flanigan Hegge
The Scottish Witch Trials—sanctioned by the state, fueled by the church, fed by hysteria– Government agents dragged thousands of innocent women into kangaroo courts often presided over by King James himself. The threat of the devil loomed and ordinary women bore the brunt of the terror. Prick reclaims the story of those who were victims of the “Witch Craze” that swept through Europe in the sixteenth century. Inspired by the Witches of Scotland campaign that worked to remember all the victims, Prick traverses magic and memory, fact and fiction, past and present.
Join us for the Chicago Premiere of Laurie Flanigan Hegge’s new play (following acclaimed productions in Edinburgh, London, and New Orleans.) Proboscis will bring its signature physicality and visual style to this anachronistic and funny show. Madelin Helling’s haunting and gorgeous puppets will hold the emotional center as our troupe of seasoned performers relay this disturbing and ever-relevant tale with razor-sharp wit and healing compassion.
