Doors 730, Show 830PM // $5 // 18+

Panda Riot was inspired by the dreamy underwater imagery of their collaborative short film, Dolphins and Porpoises. The film drove Rebecca Scott (vocals, keys) and Brian Cook (drum machine, guitar) to form the equally dreamy indie pop group Panda Riot in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania circa 2005. The band’s buzzy guitar riffs, gossamer vocals, and swaths of synthesized distortion (the duo filtered their keyboards through a death metal pedal) gave a nod to early-’90s acts like Tender Trap, the Softies, and My Bloody Valentine.

Star Tropics came together in the winter of 2010/11, beginning as a bass & guitar duo huddled around a drum machine. Since, the duo evolved into a four-piece indiepop band, determined to write carefree, primary-colored pop songs. Blending boy/girl vocals on top of jangly Rickenbacker leads, a healthy dose of fuzzy rhythms and the pulse of a driving beat, their songs can be described as equal parts celebratory and introspective.

Rei Clone can be described simply: noisy punk inspired shoegazing played by Dentons biggest anime geeks. That’s all you need to know.

Chicago Poetry Brothel Presents Rainbow Garden Party

June 2 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Cabaret, 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Chicago, IL 60622 United States
$40 – $75

Welcome to a unique and immersive poetry event that takes poetry outside classrooms and lecture halls and places it in the lush interiors of a bordello. Inspired by the turn-of-the-century brothels in New Orleans, Paris, and Buenos Aires, many of which functioned as permissive spaces where marginalized, fringe, and avant-garde artists could experiment and perform their work, The Poetry Brothel presents a rotating cast of poets, each operating within carefully constructed characters, who share their work through staged public performances, spontaneous immersive eruptions, and, most distinctly, as purveyors of intimate poetic experiences in private spaces. For a fee, all of the poets are available for these sequestered readings at any time during the event. Of course, any true bordello needs a good cover; The Poetry Brothel's is an immersive cabaret featuring poetry, burlesque, live music, vaudeville, aerials, visual art, magic, and mysticism, with newly integrated themes, performances and installations at each event. For more information, including featured performers, vendors, and activations, please visit thepoetrybrothel.com. Thematic costumes and/or cocktail attire are encouraged but not required.
